Real wood on three sides of every slat. Not just the face — the veneer wraps the two side faces too, so the shadow line between slats is timber rather than a raw edge. Cut a panel to length and the faces you keep looking at stay wood.
Half the depth of our solid line. The whole panel is 10mm — a 5mm slat on 5mm acoustic felt. Shallow enough for door reveals, ceilings and rooms where a deeper profile would read as bulk instead of texture.
The look of solid hardwood, at a fraction of the weight. Same slat width and same rhythm as our Solid line, so a wall reads the same from across a room — but it handles like a light panel, not like lumber.
A felt backing that takes the edge off a room. The acoustic felt softens echo in spaces with hard floors and bare walls. We do not publish an NRC figure for this line, so we will not quote one; if your project needs a certified number, tell us and we will say what we can and cannot document.
It comes down again. Fixed with screws, so it unfixes. Back them out, lift the panels down and fill the holes — they sit in the gaps, so they are small.
The face. Real wood veneer on three sides of every slat — the front and both flanks — over a rubberwood hardwood core. Cut a panel to length and the faces you keep looking at stay wood. Three finishes: Natural Oak, American Walnut and Dark Smoke Oak, each on black felt.
The depth. 10mm in total: a 5mm slat on 5mm of acoustic felt. The half-inch published elsewhere on the site is a nominal figure, not the milled one.
The backing. Black acoustic felt made from recycled plastic, rigid enough to hold the slats in alignment and give the panel its structure. Being black and matte it recedes, so the space between slats reads as shadow rather than as a visible backing.
The measurements. Each slat is 27mm (1.06″) wide with a 10.5mm (0.41″) gap between, eight slats to a panel — the same plan geometry as our Solid hardwood line. Only the build depth differs: 10mm here against 22mm there.
The edges. A 15.5mm felt lip runs along one edge of the panel; on the opposite edge the last slat overhangs the felt by 5mm. Butt two panels and the lip tucks under that overhang, so every seam reads as the same 10.5mm gap as the slats within a panel.
Panel width. A panel measures 305mm (12.01″) from the felt edge to the tip of the last slat, and covers 300mm (11.81″) of wall once installed — the 5mm difference is the overhang lapping over the next panel. Four panels to a box give 47.20″ of wall.
Before you start. Work out your box count first: each box covers 47.20″ of wall width, so divide your wall width in inches by 47 and round up — a ten-foot wall takes three boxes. Order it all at once so every panel comes from the same production run; veneer varies batch to batch.
Mounting. Panels fix straight to the wall with screws or construction adhesive, onto drywall or into studs, with no battens or subframe to build first. Use #6 or #8 wood screws 1.5 to 2 inches long, driven through the felt in a gap rather than through a slat face. Trim head screws are worth buying for this — the head is much smaller, so it seats down between the slats and all but disappears. Start at one end of the run and work across in the same direction.
Butting panels. Push each panel up against the last one so the felt lip tucks under the overhanging slat of the panel before it. Keep them tight rather than leaving a gap to match the others — the spacing takes care of itself.
Cutting. A fine-tooth blade through the veneer face and a sharp knife through the felt. Cut along a gap wherever you can and the join reads as another gap. For height, cut from the bottom so the factory edge stays at eye level. The veneer is thin, so score the face before you cut to stop it chipping.
Care. Dust the veneer with a dry or barely damp cloth, following the grain, and vacuum the gaps on a low setting with a soft brush head. Skip solvents, wax and steam. Indoor use only — not for bathrooms with a shower, saunas, or anywhere outdoors.
TrueWood Lite. Real wood, less of everything else.
What Changes When It's Lite
Solid construction isn't just a materials claim — it shows up in how the wall looks, how it cuts, how it handles a spill, and how tall it can go.

Half the Weight
Nearly half the weight of a standard slat panel on the market. Light enough to lift, position and fix on your own — no second pair of hands, no scaffold.

Rubberwood Hardwood Core. Never MDF.
A real rubberwood hardwood core with wood veneer on three sides, so the slat looks like wood from every angle you can see. No swollen edges, no particle board hiding under a printed film.

Low Profile, More Places
Ten millimetres off the wall. That is shallow enough for ceilings, van builds and rooms where every inch counts — and it reads quieter and more minimal than a deep slat panel.

Four Panels to a Box
47.20″ of wall width in a single box, so a feature wall takes fewer boxes and leaves fewer seams to line up.

FAQ
What is a TrueWood Lite acoustic slat panel?
TrueWood Lite is a low-profile acoustic wood slat panel. Each slat has a solid rubberwood hardwood core wrapped in real wood veneer on three sides — the top and both edges — and is fixed to a 5mm acoustic felt backing.
Slats are 27mm (1.06″) wide and 5mm deep, spaced 10.5mm (0.41″) apart, eight slats to a panel, four panels to a box.
How thick are TrueWood Lite panels?
TrueWood Lite builds out 10mm from the wall — a 5mm slat on a 5mm felt backing — published as 0.5″ nominal. It is the shallowest panel Slats.co makes, roughly half the depth of our Solid hardwood and Solid Bamboo panels, which sit at 22mm.
Can TrueWood Lite panels be installed on a ceiling?
Yes, and TrueWood Lite is the panel we would point you to for a ceiling. At 10mm deep and 15–25 lbs a box it is the lightest and shallowest panel we make, so there is less to hold overhead and it costs you less headroom than a deeper slat.
Overhead, use construction adhesive and screws into the joists rather than adhesive alone.
Can TrueWood Lite panels be used in a van or camper?
Yes. The 10mm profile and the low weight are exactly why people pick TrueWood Lite for van builds, camper interiors and other tight spaces where a deeper panel would eat usable room.
Keep in mind these are for dry interior use. A van that gets damp or swings through big temperature changes is harder on real wood than a house is.
How much does a box of TrueWood Lite weigh?
A box of TrueWood Lite holds four panels and weighs about 15 lbs at 94.49″, 20 lbs at 106″ and 25 lbs at 118″. That is close to half the weight of a standard slat panel in the same size, which is why most people handle these on their own.
Are TrueWood Lite panels made of MDF?
No. TrueWood Lite slats have a solid rubberwood hardwood core — not MDF, not particle board. Rubberwood is a genuine hardwood. Each slat is then wrapped in real wood veneer on three sides, so the edges you see from an angle are wood rather than a printed edge band.
Do TrueWood Lite panels bend around curves?
Yes. At 5mm the slats have real give, so TrueWood Lite will follow a curved wall, an arch or a column.
They do not flex as far as our ULTRALIGHT panels, which are built specifically for that. If your radius is tight, send us a photo and a measurement before you order and we will tell you straight which line suits it.
How many boxes of TrueWood Lite do I need?
Work from wall width, not square footage. One box of TrueWood Lite covers 47.20″ of wall width whichever height you order.
Measure your wall in inches, divide by 47.2 and round up. A ten-foot wall is 120″, so 120 ÷ 47.2 = 2.5, which means three boxes.
How do you install TrueWood Lite panels?
TrueWood Lite installs with construction adhesive or with screws driven discreetly between the slats. There is no adhesive tape involved.
Panels butt together so the seam gap matches the gaps between the slats. Basic tools are enough, and at 15–25 lbs a box most walls are a one-person job.
Can TrueWood Lite panels be cut to size?
Yes. TrueWood Lite cuts with common tools — a handsaw, jigsaw, circular saw or track saw through the slats, and a sharp blade for the felt backing. Cut with the finished face up and support the panel close to the cut line to keep the veneer edge clean.
How do I cut TrueWood Lite around outlets and light switches?
Measure the opening, mark it on the face of the panel, and cut it out with a jigsaw before you fix the panel to the wall. Take the cut slightly wider than the box so the cover plate hides the edge.
Can I mount a TV or shelves on TrueWood Lite panels?
TrueWood Lite is a decorative finish, not a structural one. Light items can be fixed to the panel itself, but anything with real weight — a TV, a floating shelf, a cabinet — has to be anchored through the panel into the wall studs behind it.
Do TrueWood Lite panels absorb sound?
TrueWood Lite has no NRC rating, so we will not quote you an absorption figure.
What the 5mm felt backing does is soften echo and flutter in a hard room, which most people hear as the space feeling calmer. If your project needs a measured acoustic number, talk to us before ordering — we would rather point you elsewhere than sell you the wrong thing.
Are TrueWood Lite panels fire-rated?
No. TrueWood Lite panels are not fire-rated. They are a real wood product and the wood carries no fire rating. If fire performance is a requirement on your project, check your local building code and speak to your contractor before ordering.
What sizes do TrueWood Lite panels come in?
TrueWood Lite comes pre-sized for standard ceiling heights: 94.49″ for 8ft walls, 106″ for 9ft walls and 118″ for 10ft walls. Every size ships four panels to a box covering 47.20″ of wall width.
We do not cut custom lengths, but the panels trim down easily with a saw.
What finishes does TrueWood Lite come in?
TrueWood Lite is available in Natural Oak, American Walnut, Grey Oak, Dark Grey Oak, Dark Smoke Oak and Black Oak on black acoustic felt, plus Natural Oak on beige felt.
Because the veneer is real wood, grain and tone vary a little from panel to panel.
How much does shipping cost on TrueWood Lite panels?
Shipping within the contiguous US is free on orders of $70 or more, so any 94.49″ and 106″ TrueWood Lite order ships free.
The 118″ panels are too long for parcel and travel by LTL freight. Four boxes or more ships free; one to three boxes has the freight rate calculated at checkout.
How long does TrueWood Lite take to arrive?
In-stock TrueWood Lite ships within one business day and usually arrives in 3–6 business days depending on where you are. For pre-orders, the estimated ship date is shown next to the Add to Cart button.
Freight deliveries of 118″ panels are scheduled with you directly by the carrier.
Can TrueWood Lite panels be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
No — TrueWood Lite is for indoor use only. It is real wood, so rain, direct sun and sustained humidity will damage it.
A powder room or a well-ventilated bathroom away from direct spray is usually fine. A wet room or a shower surround is not.
How do I clean TrueWood Lite panels?
Dust TrueWood Lite with a soft cloth, or vacuum along the slats with a brush attachment. For marks, a barely damp cloth is enough. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents and abrasive cleaners — they will damage the veneer and can mat the felt.
Can TrueWood Lite panels be painted or stained?
You can, because the surface is real wood veneer. Test on a sample or an offcut first: veneer is thin, so stain takes differently than solid timber and heavy sanding will cut straight through it. Keep paint and stain off the felt backing, which will not clean up.
Can I take TrueWood Lite panels with me if I move?
If you install with screws, yes — the panels come off and go back up in the next place, which is why renters usually choose screws over adhesive. Panels fixed with construction adhesive are not realistically removable without damaging the panel and the wall.
Are TrueWood Lite panels eco-friendly?
The core is rubberwood, a plantation hardwood harvested from rubber trees at the end of their latex-producing life rather than cut from forest timber. The felt backing is made from recycled plastic.
Slats.co also plants a tree with every order through our TheGoodAPI partnership — more than 3,000 so far.
Does Slats.co offer TrueWood Lite samples?
Yes. The TrueWood sample kit lets you see the finishes and feel the build in your own light before you commit to a wall.
Note that the TrueWood kit does not carry a purchase credit — that applies to our ULTRALIGHT sample kit only.
Where is Slats.co based?
Slats.co is a family-owned business in Southern California, and panels ship direct from our SoCal warehouse. We do not have a showroom yet, though one is planned. Until then a sample kit is the next best way to see a finish in person.
