Bring warmth, texture, and high-performance sound absorption to your space with the TrueWood Lite Acoustic Slat Panel in Grey Oak with Black Felt — our most premium, low-profile solution for modern walls and ceilings.
Designed with a sleek ½″ depth, the TrueWood Lite panel delivers a refined, architectural look without the bulk of traditional slat systems. This ultra-low-profile construction makes it ideal for spaces where depth matters, while still offering the visual richness and acoustic performance expected from a high-end panel.
Unlike standard MDF-based slat panels that veneer only the top surface, TrueWood panels are built around a solid rubberwood core, wrapped in real natural grey oak veneer on all three visible sides. The result is an authentic wood grain appearance from every angle — whether viewed head-on or from the side — with a level of depth and material honesty that MDF panels simply can’t replicate.
The natural grey oak finish brings a clean, Scandinavian-inspired warmth, while the black acoustic felt backing creates bold contrast between slats and enhances visual rhythm. Beyond looks, the felt backing helps reduce echo and reverb.
Each panel feels solid and substantial, yet remains flexible enough for gentle curves. Installation is straightforward using either construction adhesive or screws discreetly placed between the slats. Raw edges are intentionally left exposed, showcasing the solid wood core and reinforcing the panel’s premium construction.
From feature walls and ceilings to offices, conference rooms, and high-end hospitality spaces, the TrueWood Grey Oak + Black Felt panel offers the elevated look of real wood, professional-grade acoustic performance, and a clean, low-profile form — a modern essential that performs as beautifully as it looks.
The veneer wraps the face and both sides, so the shadow line between slats is wood, not a raw edge.
Only 10mm deep, so it sits flush to baseboards for a minimalist finish and doesn't eat into small rooms, especially on ceilings.
Same slat width and rhythm as our Solid line, so a wall reads the same from across the room.
The acoustic felt backing softens echo in rooms with hard floors and bare walls.
Put up with screws, it unscrews and lifts off. The holes sit in the gaps, so they're small.

How many boxes?
A 10 ft wall (120″) takes 3 boxes.
- Acclimate 48–72 hours
Unbox and lay the panels flat on the floor of the room they're going in, out of the packaging and away from direct sun and heat. Don't stand them on end.
- Lead with the lip
Each panel has a bare felt lip on one edge and an overhanging slat on the other. Face every lip the way you're working.
- Fix it
Construction adhesive, or #6 screws (1–1.5″, trim-head for the cleanest look) through the felt in the second gap in from each edge, rows no more than 24″ apart. Or both for extra hold.
- Lap the next panel
Lower each new panel so its overhanging slat drops over the last panel's felt lip. The felt butts flush and the gap at the join matches the gaps between slats.
You'll need
- Drill / driver (cordless is best)
- #6 screws, 1–1.5″ (trim-head for a cleaner look)
- Construction adhesive, instead of or as well as screws
- 4 ft level or a laser, and a pencil
- Tape measure
- Stud finder or wall anchors
- Track, circular or hand saw with a fine-tooth blade
- Utility knife, for felt cuts
Cutting tips
- Cut to length with a track, circular or hand saw and a fine-tooth blade. Cut to width by slicing the felt in a gap with a utility knife: whole slats come away, no saw needed.
- Run painter's tape across the face and down the slat sides on the cut line, since the veneer can chip.
- Slats are stapled to the felt from the back every 10–13″. Line your cut up to miss the staples, and re-staple any slat that comes loose.
- Offcut slats lift off the felt and make matching trim for corners and edges.
- Corners: at an outside corner hold the panels back 17mm on the lapped side and 12mm on the other; at an inside lap, 5mm.
- Outlets and switches: a jigsaw or multi-tool through the slats, a utility knife through the felt.
Care
- Dust with a dry or barely damp cloth, following the grain
- Vacuum the gaps on low with a soft brush head
- Skip solvents, wax and steam

Why TrueWood Lite
What makes it different
Solid rubberwood slats wrapped in real wood veneer on three sides, on a slim 5mm felt backing. More substance than Ultralight, still only 10mm off the wall.
Easy to handle
A slim 10mm panel that is easy to lift, position and fix, at 25 to 31 lbs a box.
Solid rubberwood core
Real hardwood under real veneer on three sides, so every edge you see is wood. Never MDF.
Low profile, more places
10mm off the wall: slim enough for ceilings and tight spaces where every inch counts.
Four panels to a box
47.20″ of wall width in every box, in 8, 9 and 10 ft heights.
The details
Product specification
Actual milled dimensions, not nominal ones.
Solid rubberwood slats wrapped in real wood veneer on three sides, stapled onto 5mm acoustic felt from behind. Four panels make one box: 47.20″ of wall width together. One edge carries a felt lip and the last slat overhangs the other, so panels lap and every seam reads as the same 0.41″ gap as the slats.

TrueWood Lite questions

Still stuck? Ask us anything about your wall. We’re real people in Garden Grove, CA, not a bot.
Sizing & boxesHow many boxes of TrueWood Lite do I need?
Work from wall width, not square footage. One box of TrueWood Lite covers 47.20″ of wall width whichever height you order.
Measure your wall in inches, divide by 47.2 and round up. A ten-foot wall is 120″, so 120 ÷ 47.2 = 2.5, which means three boxes.
Enter your wall width to see how many boxes.
Rounded up to whole boxes for one wall at full panel height. Add a box if you’ll cut around windows or doors.
Sizing & boxesHow many panels are in a box of TrueWood Lite?
Four. Every box holds four panels and covers 47.20″ of wall width, whichever height you order.
Sizing & boxesWhat sizes do TrueWood Lite panels come in?
TrueWood Lite comes pre-sized for standard ceiling heights: 94.49″ for 8ft walls, 106″ for 9ft walls and 118″ for 10ft walls. Every size ships four panels to a box covering 47.20″ of wall width.
We do not cut custom lengths, but the panels trim down easily with a saw.
Sizing & boxesHow much does a box of TrueWood Lite weigh?
A box of TrueWood Lite holds four panels and weighs about 25 lbs at 94.49″, 27 lbs at 106″ and 31 lbs at 118″. Those are whole-carton weights, packaging included, so each panel is under 7 lbs at 94.49″.
Sizing & boxesHow thick are TrueWood Lite panels?
TrueWood Lite builds out 10mm from the wall — a 5mm slat on a 5mm felt backing — published as 0.5″ nominal. It is roughly half the depth of our Solid hardwood and Solid Bamboo panels.
Sizing & boxesHow many slats does a TrueWood Lite panel have?
Eight. Each slat is 27mm (1.06″) wide, with a 10.5mm (0.41″) gap between slats.
InstallCan TrueWood Lite go on a curved wall?
A gentle, sweeping curve, yes. The felt backing lets the panel follow a wide, shallow bend in a wall.
Tight curves, arches and columns are not what TrueWood Lite is made for. If your wall is more than a gentle sweep, send us a photo and a measurement before you order and we will tell you straight.
InstallHow do TrueWood Lite panels join together?
One edge of each panel has a felt lip, and on the other edge the last slat overhangs its own felt. Butt two panels together and the overhang lies over the next panel’s lip, so the felt meets flush and the seam reads as the same 0.41″ gap as the slats within a panel.
InstallHow do you install TrueWood Lite panels?
TrueWood Lite installs with construction adhesive or with screws driven discreetly between the slats. There is no adhesive tape involved.
Before you start, lay the panels flat on the floor of the room for 48 to 72 hours, out of their packaging and away from direct sun and heaters. Don’t stand them on end against a wall, as the solid rubberwood core can bow.
Panels butt together so the seam gap matches the gaps between the slats. Basic tools are enough.
InstallCan TrueWood Lite panels be installed on a ceiling?
Yes. At 10mm deep it costs you very little headroom, and each box of four panels weighs 25 to 31 lbs depending on length.
Overhead, use construction adhesive and screws into the joists rather than adhesive alone.
InstallCan TrueWood Lite panels be cut to size?
Yes. TrueWood Lite cuts with common tools — a handsaw, jigsaw, circular saw or track saw through the slats, and a sharp blade for the felt backing. Cut with the finished face up and support the panel close to the cut line to keep the veneer edge clean.
InstallHow do I cut TrueWood Lite around outlets and light switches?
Measure the opening, mark it on the face of the panel, and cut it out with a jigsaw before you fix the panel to the wall. Take the cut slightly wider than the box so the cover plate hides the edge.
InstallCan I mount a TV or shelves on TrueWood Lite panels?
TrueWood Lite is a decorative finish, not a structural one. Light items can be fixed to the panel itself, but anything with real weight — a TV, a floating shelf, a cabinet — has to be anchored through the panel into the wall studs behind it.
InstallCan TrueWood Lite panels be used in a van or camper?
Yes. The 10mm profile is exactly why people pick TrueWood Lite for van builds, camper interiors and other tight spaces where a deeper panel would eat usable room.
Keep in mind these are for dry interior use. A van that gets damp or swings through big temperature changes is harder on real wood than a house is.
MaterialsWhat is a TrueWood Lite acoustic slat panel?
TrueWood Lite is a low-profile acoustic wood slat panel. Each slat has a solid rubberwood hardwood core wrapped in real wood veneer on three sides — the top and both edges — and is fixed to a 5mm acoustic felt backing.
Slats are 27mm (1.06″) wide and 5mm deep, spaced 10.5mm (0.41″) apart, eight slats to a panel, four panels to a box.
MaterialsAre TrueWood Lite panels made of MDF?
No. TrueWood Lite slats have a solid rubberwood hardwood core — not MDF, not particle board. Rubberwood is a genuine hardwood. Each slat is then wrapped in real wood veneer on three sides, so the edges you see from an angle are wood rather than a printed edge band.
MaterialsWhat finishes does TrueWood Lite come in?
TrueWood Lite is available in Natural Oak, American Walnut, Grey Oak, Dark Grey Oak, Dark Smoke Oak and Black Oak on black acoustic felt, plus Natural Oak on Oatmeal felt.
Because the veneer is real wood, grain and tone vary a little from panel to panel.
MaterialsDo TrueWood Lite panels absorb sound?
TrueWood Lite has no NRC rating, so we will not quote you an absorption figure.
What the 5mm felt backing does is soften echo and flutter in a hard room, which most people hear as the space feeling calmer. If your project needs a measured acoustic number, talk to us before ordering — we would rather point you elsewhere than sell you the wrong thing.
MaterialsAre TrueWood Lite panels fire-rated?
No. TrueWood Lite panels are not fire-rated. They are a real wood product and the wood carries no fire rating. If fire performance is a requirement on your project, check your local building code and speak to your contractor before ordering.
MaterialsCan TrueWood Lite panels be painted or stained?
You can, because the surface is real wood veneer. Test on a sample or an offcut first: veneer is thin, so stain takes differently than solid timber and heavy sanding will cut straight through it. Keep paint and stain off the felt backing, which will not clean up.
MaterialsAre TrueWood Lite panels eco-friendly?
The core is rubberwood, a plantation hardwood harvested from rubber trees at the end of their latex-producing life rather than cut from forest timber.
Slats.co also plants a tree with every order through our TheGoodAPI partnership — more than 3,000 so far.
Shipping & careHow much does shipping cost on TrueWood Lite panels?
Shipping within the contiguous US is free on orders of $70 or more, so any 94.49″ and 106″ TrueWood Lite order ships free.
The 118″ panels are too long for parcel and travel by LTL freight. Four boxes or more ships free; one to three boxes has the freight rate calculated at checkout.
Shipping & careHow long does TrueWood Lite take to arrive?
In-stock TrueWood Lite ships within one business day and usually arrives in 3–6 business days depending on where you are. For pre-orders, the estimated ship date is shown next to the Add to Cart button.
Freight deliveries of 118″ panels are scheduled with you directly by the carrier.
Shipping & careCan TrueWood Lite panels be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
No — TrueWood Lite is for indoor use only. It is real wood, so rain, direct sun and sustained humidity will damage it.
A powder room or a well-ventilated bathroom away from direct spray is usually fine. A wet room or a shower surround is not.
Shipping & careHow do I clean TrueWood Lite panels?
Dust TrueWood Lite with a soft cloth, or vacuum along the slats with a brush attachment. For marks, a barely damp cloth is enough. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents and abrasive cleaners — they will damage the veneer and can mat the felt.
Shipping & careCan I take TrueWood Lite panels with me if I move?
If you install with screws, yes — the panels come off and go back up in the next place, which is why renters usually choose screws over adhesive. Panels fixed with construction adhesive are not realistically removable without damaging the panel and the wall.
Shipping & careDoes Slats.co offer TrueWood Lite samples?
Yes. The TrueWood sample kit lets you see the finishes and feel the build in your own light before you commit to a wall.
Shipping & careWhere is Slats.co based?
Slats.co is a family-owned business in Southern California, and panels ship direct from our SoCal warehouse. We do not have a showroom yet, though one is planned. Until then a sample kit is the next best way to see a finish in person.
