ULTRALIGHT Wide is a flexible acoustic wood wall panel with broad plank faces. Real wood veneer is laminated straight onto 9mm recycled acoustic felt, and shadow reveals are machined into the felt between the faces. There is no MDF, no hardwood backer and no rigid core of any kind.

Each panel is 11.80″ wide and carries three faces of 3.82″. Five panels come in a box and cover 59″ of wall width. It is the same construction as the standard ULTRALIGHT slat, with three wide faces in place of seven narrow ones.

ULTRALIGHT Wide panels are 9mm thick in total — about 0.35 of an inch. That is the veneer face and the acoustic felt together, because there is no core between them.

It is the shallowest panel Slats.co sells, which makes it workable on ceilings, in door reveals and anywhere a deeper panel would read as bulk rather than texture.

No. ULTRALIGHT Wide has no MDF, no particle board, no plywood and no hardwood backer — there is no core at all. The wood veneer is laminated directly onto 9mm recycled acoustic felt.

That is the reason the panel is light enough to handle alone and flexible enough to follow a curve. Slats.co panels with a hardwood core, such as TrueWood and the Solid line, are built differently and suit different jobs.

Gentle curves, yes — columns, cove walls and broad radius sweeps. The panel has no rigid core, so it flexes the way 9mm felt flexes, with no kerfing, steaming or relief cuts.

It will not wrap a tight radius the way the standard ULTRALIGHT slat does. That profile carries six reveals per panel cut four times deeper, which makes it a far more flexible panel. For a tight curve, choose the standard slat.

A box of five ULTRALIGHT Wide panels weighs about 20 lbs at 94.49″, 25 lbs at 106″ and 29 lbs at 118.11″.

That is light enough to carry up a flight of stairs and to hold a panel flat against the wall while you fix it, without a second pair of hands.

By height that works out to 38.71 sq ft at 94.49″, 43.43 sq ft at 106″ and 48.39 sq ft at 118.11″.

Because each end of the panel carries a 1.5mm chamfer, the panel covers the full 11.80″ once installed. There is no lap or overlap to subtract.

Measure the width of your wall in inches and divide by 59 — each box covers 59.00″ of wall width. Round up, because the offcut from the last panel usually finds a use elsewhere on the wall.

Panels fix to the wall with construction adhesive. Screws are not an option on this profile — the shadow reveal is only 3mm wide, so there is nowhere for a screw head to sit. Finishing nails do work: the head is small enough to seat down in the reveal and disappear, and they are handy for pinning a panel while the adhesive takes.

Start from one end, check the first panel is plumb, then butt each following panel up against the last. Most walls are a one-person job at this weight.

No. ULTRALIGHT Wide fixes straight to the wall surface — drywall, plaster or timber — with construction adhesive. No battens, no furring strips and no subframe.

That is part of why the panel only takes 9mm off the room. On a curved or uneven surface, fixing straight to the wall also lets the panel follow the shape rather than bridging it.

Yes. At 9mm thick and about 20 lbs a box, it is easy to take overhead.

Use construction adhesive and pin each panel with finishing nails while it cures, rather than relying on adhesive alone. Work along one line so the reveals stay continuous across the span.

Yes. Cut the veneer face with a fine-tooth blade and the felt with a sharp knife.

Wherever you can, cut along a reveal — the join then reads as another reveal instead of a cut edge. For height, cut from the bottom so the factory edge stays at eye level.

Mark the opening on the face of the panel, then cut the veneer with a sharp knife or a fine-tooth blade and peel the felt back behind it.

Because the felt is only 9mm and has no rigid core, it cuts cleanly without chipping or blowing out the back. A cover plate sits over the edge and hides the cut.

Yes, but fix into the wall behind, never into the panel. It is veneer on felt with no rigid core, so it carries no structural load at all.

Locate your studs before you panel, mark them, then run your bracket fixings through the panel and into the stud.

The 9mm recycled felt backing softens echo and reverb in a room. In practice people notice a room sounding warmer and less live, particularly in spaces with hard floors and bare walls.

With only two reveals per panel, less felt edge is exposed than on the standard slat, so treat the acoustic effect as a bonus rather than the reason to buy. Slats.co does not publish an NRC rating, so we will not quote one.

Our panels are not fire rated. If a fire rating is required for your project, check with your contractor or your local building code before ordering.

Shipping is free to the contiguous U.S. on most ULTRALIGHT Wide orders. The exceptions are samples, and 118.11″ panels ordered in quantities of 1 to 3 boxes, where shipping is calculated at checkout.

Order 4 or more boxes of 118.11″ panels and shipping is free. The 118.11″ boxes are long enough to move by freight rather than parcel, which is why the carrier rate shows up on smaller orders.

Most ULTRALIGHT Wide orders leave the warehouse within one to two business days, with delivery to the contiguous U.S. typically inside a week.

Freight shipments of 118.11″ panels take longer and are booked with a delivery appointment. The delivery estimate on the product page reflects the current lead time for the size and finish you are looking at.

ULTRALIGHT Wide is for indoor use only. It is not suitable for outdoors, saunas, or bathrooms with a shower or bath in the same room.

A powder room with good ventilation and no shower is usually fine. Wood veneer and felt both take on moisture, and neither recovers well once they have.

Dust the veneer with a dry or barely damp cloth, following the grain. Vacuum the felt in the reveals on a low setting with a soft brush head.

No solvents, no wax, no polish and no steam. If something is spilled on the felt, blot it up rather than wiping across.

We do not recommend it. The face is a thin real wood veneer, and stain lifts unevenly while paint fills the reveals and flattens the rhythm the panel is there for.

If you want a painted finish, the Paint-Ready Fluted line is made for exactly that — it ships pre-primed white and is designed to be painted in your own colour.

No meaningful movement. There is no solid timber and no MDF in the panel, so there is nothing to swell or shrink with humidity the way a cored panel can.

You do not need expansion gaps at the seams. Butt the panels tight and they stay tight.

Not cleanly. ULTRALIGHT Wide mounts with construction adhesive, which is not designed to release — expect to damage the panel and the wall surface taking it off.

If you need panels that come down and travel with you, choose the standard ULTRALIGHT slat instead. Its reveals are wide and deep enough to take a screw head, so it fixes with screws and unfixes the same way.

Less so than the standard ULTRALIGHT slat. This profile mounts with construction adhesive, which will mark the wall when it comes off, so check your tenancy agreement before you commit a wall to it.

If you are renting, the standard ULTRALIGHT slat is the better pick — it fixes with screws through the groove and leaves only small holes to fill.

The 9mm felt backing is made from post-consumer recycled PET — plastic bottles diverted from waste and spun into felt. The panels are independently tested to meet low-VOC standards.
