How to Paint Wooden Venetian Blinds
Breathe new life into old Wood Blinds
If your wooden blinds have faded from sunlight exposure or lost their color due to water damage, you can easily give them a new and fresh look by simply painting them. Instead of spending lots of money on buying new blinds you can paint the old ones. With a simple trick painting can be easy and even fun, and here are some tips on how to paint wooden venetian blinds.
All you need are a few basic things: a paintbrush, screwdriver, an old rag and a can of paint.

First of all prepare the work area. You can use a table protected by foil or something similar. In order to have an easy access to the slats, you can set up in your backyard two stands and panel or a table top on them to lay the blinds on.
Remove the blinds and place them on the work surface. Lift the bottom rail, locate the wood or plastic latches on the bottom with the help of the flat screwdriver and set them aside. Cut the knot and pull the bottom rail off the strings.
Find the main strings and pull them up to the head rail. Keep them in order and carefully pull the slats from each threaded rail. Put a set of wooden blinds on a flat surface and start cleaning. Use a cloth and a small amount of warm water to remove dust and dirt from the blinds. If they are so dinky that you can’t wash them in this way, try using a toothbrush and soap. This method entails a little more elbow grease but it’s worth the trouble. Remember to rinse the soap afterwards and leave them to dry for a bit.

For a shiny finish you can use a paintbrush. Edges of the blinds will be most visible so pay attention to them. When you finish painting one side, turn the blinds over and paint the other side, then let it dry. Drying can take up to 48 hours. You can paint them again if is necessary. You can apply a final layer of semi-gloss latex paint for an attractive look.
When the paint has dried you can reinstall the blinds. If the bottom rail does not look right, you can adjust the length of the blinds and even out the bottom rail with a cord. After adjusting, you can tie a new knot and cut off any excess string. Simple as that.
